Steph Calvert is the owner, designer, and illustrator behind Hearts and Laserbeams. She has been working nonstop since graduating from Georgia’s Savannah College of Art and Design in 1999. Her web, design and illustration work has been seen worldwide on apparel, in print, and online.
Steph has been self employed since 2010, working with small business to take their design and illustration to the next level. She speaks at conferences on small business topics, co-produces the Work. Life. Branding. web series, and is poised to self-publish a children’s book in 2014.
Steph shares her home with her hilarious partners in crime: husband Josh, son Phil (3 years), daughter Joy (3 months), and mom-in-law Carole, along with a slew of animals that can best be described as more than a little farmy. She enjoys coloring with her son, karaoke, and a good glass of wine every now and then. (But preferably now, thanks.)
About Our Blog
Steph Calvert has blogged for Hearts and Laserbeams since 2002, and talks about art, humor, lifestyle, parenting and small business with a fun, optimistic flair. The Hearts and Laserbeams podcast lauched in 2014 as an additional vehicle for ridiculousness. Steph was a contributor of parenting and crafting posts to Soliel Moon Frye’s website Moonfrye in 2013, and brought indie arts and crafts news to OC Weekly’s website visitors through her “Gettin’ Made” blog posts from 2009-2011.
Most recently, Steph learned a thing or two about search engine optimization and tackled her own blog’s lagging statistics. She has since written an extremely helpful eBook, “Easy SEO for Bloggers”. The book details the steps Steph takes to make each of her Hearts and Laserbeams blog posts search engjne friendly. These steps have rocketed her website from an Alexa score of over 5 million worldwide to one of the top 200,000 websites in the U.S. in under six months.
